On Location: Golden Gai
Golden Gai is an area in the Shinjuku neighborhood with narrow lanes and very small bars. And small means small: some of them hold only a few people, and are more like private clubs. Sometimes we literally had to let the clients pass us on their way to have a drink. Such close quarters require a certain amount of flexibility, but when the shoot was over we didn’t have to go far for a drink.

This is of course a picture of Hamilton right near, you can get your ATM by the first treasury of the United States, and all of that wall covering is scenic America, and this wall covering, each one of those sections of panel cost sixty-thousand dollars, and it has to be put on, it’s all hand-painted. - Carleton Varney
